A first party or internal audit is usually performed by someone working at the company who is trained and independent from the process being audited. In these cases, this audit may also be referred to as a ‘self-assessment’.
Alternatively, as many companies are too busy to conduct self-assessments, or do not have the people resources, the internal audit may be conducted by a contracted internal auditor, such as The Food Auditor.
The purpose of an internal audit is to check the system. If left unchecked, the system could negatively affect product safety or quality, moreover, the integrity of the overall system.
Internal audits:
✔ provide feedback that the system is both implemented and effective by measuring the strengths and weaknesses
✔ help with continuous improvement
✔ allow for issues to be indentified and fixed prior to the third party audit
We conduct internal audits for numerous companies from small family businesses to international organizations. Contact The Food Auditor for your next internal audit.
